Workin’ on the railroad…
Recently, I was involved in my first real photo shoot. It was a lot of fun and great practice. My friend Kim’s beautiful daughter, Alisha, was our main model. My nieces, Weslea and Caryn, also were along for some great photo-ops. Alisha’s boyfriend came in handy for getting people on and off the train car, as well as joining Alisha for a few shots. Since Kim and my sister Angie were also there taking pictures, we all agreed to wait until today to post our pictures. It will be interesting to see how three different photographers interpret the same subject and setting.
The photos were all taken near my in-laws’ house. Ever since the economy went sour, there has been a huge line of train cars kept on one of the tracks. Lucky for us, they provided a great backdrop for our pictures. Don’t worry, we even got permission from some of the guys who work for the railroad.
I have a gazillion pictures. Prepare for photo overload! (You might find this hard to believe, but I really pared it down.) I tried to represent several different photo processing techniques. Hope you enjoy!

Oh wow, these are so beautiful.
I love every single one of these!! Can you come take photos of my children please?? and can I follow you around while you do it?
I went into much greater detail on just how exactly we "gained permission" from the railroad guys. lol! Right after our freak-out attack! ;)
Your shots are fantastic! I think my favs are the one of Alisha looking over her shoulder (in the B&W), Caryn laughing and the close-up of Weslea with her brown eyes. BEAUTIFUL!!
Drew, these are just wonderful!!!! I so want to master subject placement and then learning what editing works (and obviously what doesn't). Your editing is just amazing....
I am going to get Colleen to model for me and hopefully I can get poses that look natural like you got here.
Wow, wow, wow, wow!!! So great! I have been contemplating going to check out some railroad cars near me, but have just been to chicken. You and the sis have inspired me.
BTW - the high-key shots are amazing!!!
I love your pictures. Especially the black and white ones. They are so timeless.
The first one and the one of Kim's daughter's eyes are just perfect.
Amazing!
These are amazing!!! I adore the railroad/train as a background!
You can't go wrong with such gorgeous models! You two sisters are something else! So talented!
I love them all. And the Alisha is just gourgeous! Ha Ha! I was trying to get them up on my blog last night but I was having trouble, so I'm trying to get them up right now. They all turned out great. Most of all I had a blast! We will have to do it again sometime.
What an amazing site for photos!!! You and Angie got so many gorgeous portraits!
Drew! You did a really, really fantatstic job! I just LOVE your pictures. AWESOME. AMAZING! OUTSTANDING. PHENOMINAL. I can't pick one favorite. I am printing out some of them because I am so proud of you and you are an inspiration to me : ) XO
Great pictures, Angie. I've been following for a while, and I'm not sure I've ever commented, but these turned out great. Sometimes the exploring and just for fun shoots are the best!
I love your closeups! They captured the personality of the kids great! You can tell they were having fun.
I checked out all three blogs and you can SO tell who's kids belong to who or which photographer knows them the best. The photographer's respective children are all giving them the look in at least one photo LOL I love it!
I love how all three of you shot together and posted your photos at the same time. It was fun looking at all three posts.
I shoot with my mom and it's amazing the different pictures we can capture when we're standing shoulder to shoulder shooting the same subject. Great job!
