Ben’s piggy bank

I have an electric piano that I bought from my sister-in-law years ago.  It’s nothing fancy, but it sounds pretty close to a real piano (touch sensitive, same number of keys, etc.), and it allows me to put on headphones and practice without waking up the kids.  Lately, the piano has gotten somewhat quirky.  It has been playing 2 volumes:  super loud and not at all.  Also, some of the keys are clanky and sometimes don’t work at all.  Because we are avoiding having to buy a new piano, Mark recently checked to see if we could play the piano through our audio system.  It worked, but since I like having the headphones, I haven’t really gone that route.

Fast forward to today.  Nathan was admiring the “gold” $1 coins he got as a gift for preschool graduation.  In a moment of sweetness, Nathan gave Ben 5 of the coins “so he would have something to spend at garage sales”.  I was busy praising Nathan for being so generous.  From the corner of my eye, I suddenly realized that I was seeing something rather strange.  Ben had taken a direct route over to the piano and starting clunking the coins into a space in front of the keys.  I immediately ran over and got after Ben, letting him know that he was going to ruin the piano.

Very frustrated and annoyed, I went and got a screw driver so I could try to get the coins out.  Little did I know what awaited me.

Pretty much across the stretch of piano keys, there was treasure to be found…not just coins, but paper clips, crumbs and other small wonders that could fit between and in front of the piano keys.

Two payoffs to this story:  1.  I’m a couple dollars richer and 2.  My piano suddenly plays much better!

This is SO so funny! How hilarious : ). Kaishon thought the vent in his room was his own personal trash can..... I never did figure out how to get everything out! : ).

Did you just LOVE your first week of summer vacation?

This totally cracked me up! What an unexpected end to the keyboard story. Kids are so surprising and unpredictable. Makes me feel better about finding toy ducks in my bed when I woke up this morning.

(I play piano too.)

OMG, that is soooo funny!! What kids think of is just unbelievable. I think Ben must have been trying to find a safe place to save his money. Too cute. Glad your electric piano is now working and sounding better!!

Thanks for the comment about that skyline. I can't believe it didn't come out blurry like all of the others.

That is hilarious! At least he likes to stuff his little things in your keyboard and not up his nose or in his ears!!!

Reminds me of a sermon illustration I heard once. Kids understand that money is important but not sure why. One day his wife went to move his daughter's kitchen and could barely budge it. The daughter had been shoving loose change into the "vent holes" on the stove area! The money was definitely in a safe place. :)

I'm a Christian, wife, mom, teacher and computer addict. I started my family blog years ago in an attempt to document daily happenings. (I knew I'd forget everything before I ever had a chance to scrapbook so I'd better write it down!) After seeing the incredible improvement in photography my sister made after having a "Year in Photos" site, I was inspired to start my own. So now I have my "gross stories from a typical day with my kids" blog and my daily photo blog. Hope you enjoy!
